DECT v’s Bluetooth<\/h2>\n

What is the difference?<\/h4>\n

DECT had been around many years whereas Bluetooth is a newcomer to the market. \u00a0Most domestic cordless phones use DECT as it has high power and a longer range. Bluetooth was invented in more recent times as a wireless protocol designed for mobile phones and their wireless devices. Bluetooth has a shorter range but wider bandwidth, meaning it can pass more information at a faster rate, but over short distances.<\/p>\n

When it comes to headsets, Bluetooth is excellent for mobile phones as you are never far from the mobile when you are on a call, your phone should be on your person; or very nearby and Bluetooth offers features that DECT cannot (like caller name announce) depending on the model.<\/p>\n

Bluetooth has limitations as to the number of devices that can occupy the same physical space without causing interference. For these reasons we recommend DECT headsets for office environments<\/strong> due to their greater range (e.g. 50 – 100 metres) and ability to have a greater number in the same area without causing interference. With DECT headsets staff can get up from their desks and move around the office while on a call and in most cases can answer and hang up calls from the headset without the need to return to their desk every time.<\/p>\n

Many modern desk phones have Bluetooth in-built which means cost savings as all you need to purchase is the Bluetooth headset, whereas the DECT models all come with their own transmitter. If you have a phone with in-built Bluetooth please see our Bluetooth Headset page, but keep in mind the distance limitations of up to 10 metres. If you have a Bluetooth phone and need the grater distance offered by DECT you can still purchase a DECT headset.<\/p>\n
